It was the first time that Papa had managed to save enough money to take the entire family on vacation. We only had one suitcase, made of aluminum, very nice, even if it was too small for everything that there was to carry.

We filled up two huge boxes and put them on the roof racks.  Mom, on her side, rolled up two blankets and made with some old sheets three enormous balls of clothes. But there was something which we could not have forgotten for anything in the world: the fishing poles!

And just like that, we were ready for the “big trip”.  Coronda, the town where Aunt Celia lived, was only 100 km away, but for us it was major expedition.
